Playing House

Yesterday my 5 and 4 year old daughters were playing house. I overheard a heated exchange they were having on the stairs. The older one defiantly declared that she was marrying her boyfriend and there was nothing her mother could do about it. I saw the 4 year old "mother" grab her daughters cheeks to physically stop the verbal disobediance and I encouraged them to play a little nicer. The mommy was in the kitchen with tears a few minutes later. Apparently, her daughter SPIT IN HER FACE. Shocking such dramatic play-acting.

Digital Scrapbooking-Lets start a monthly swap!

I have always had a passion for preserving the family memories and although I love the textures and frills of actual paper, digital is such a nice way to go! I don't have to hoard all those supplies and try to figure out how to organize them. It makes it easy to share and copy for extra books. I reuse the digital files over and over again turning them into different colors and combinations. I am excited to continue to learn more about this field and all the possibilites.

I currently use Adobe Photoshop Elements which I downloaded online for about $100. Cord & Janine have a Simply Scrapbooking digital line that includes cool how-to vidoes on youtube. I love for digital kits and my most favorite site is which has lots of free monthly kits-Bonus! Also, Two peas has digital tutorials that are cool.

My favorite artist is Rhonna Farrer (Kim Mask's sister in-law for those of you that lived in Davencourt)! You can check out her stuff at: and her personal blog at

Digital scrapbooking is super easy to pickup and I am sure I don't even know the half of what is possible because I never have taken a class. I would like to start a monthly digital scrap swap if any one is interested. I think it is easy to create pages anybody could put their own pics in and trade them monthly. Please let me know if anyone is interested in joining my group. I am glad to show you what I know if you promise to do the same!

Energy & Health, promises Defender lives up to!

Some days my body is just worn down and I am sure my lack of nutrition contributes to that. My Dad Glenn has created an amazing health drink named Defender. It is a powder comprised of fruits and vegetables that you mix with water.

I love to drink it before a workout because it greatly increases my endurance. When I am in a class at the gym I can bust out my high kicks for the footloose song much longer and my heart rate monitor shows me the increased results! For me, Defender is a great afternoon pick me up packed with nutrition instead of my traditional diet coke which I am convinced is possibly poisoning me! Some days, I just struggle to get going and the nutrition in defender really helps make the difference and it doesn't have the negative side affects like those energy drinks and caffeine.

Defender just launched their website and you can get a free sample at:

Sewing for Baby Cruz

The past 2 weeks I have been sick sick sick with an upper respiratory infection that I would guess is pretty close dying from the likes of tropical malaria. Thank heavens I have a sweetheart that pampered me and took care of me. They gave me some steroids for my lungs which wired me and kept me up all hours of the night for days on end. I used this energy to organize a few areas and most of all, got my creative sewing juices flowing. I had the funnest time making cute baby goodies for Cruz. I found a fabulous pattern for sewing those minkee blanets with the satin binding on Etsy and the cutest Snuggle Bug pattern from Lily Londyn, the blog can be found at I am going to make some fun things for my girlies for Christmas. Let me know if you want to have a project day!

Ruthie and Bekah were overheard fighting about the equitable distribution of candy. Jason asked her later if they were able to work it out and Ruthie replied "Yah, but it was awkward. I got two pinks and Bekah got one green."

New VH Blog

Started a blog for Vintage Hem. You can check it out at

The Dentist

Today, I took all three girls to the dentist. The youngest two were sedated for some work and boy did they turn into chatty kathy's once they started feeling that medicine. Ruth was sure to inform the dentist that we have another Dr. named Doug and he has magazines in his office and her parents are going to Dallas because they fight and she is going to get a car when she turns 16 and when she is a mom she will let her family do whatever they want so they are happy. Bekah slid off the couch while I was trying to hold up Ruth. Ha Ha Ha. I hand my hands full so I left without paying. I think they should pay me for the entertainment.

Bday Parties

We headed to Partyland the other night after Caroline's bday party to check out costumes for halloween. I think we settled on Pink Ladies from the movie Grease and Jason is going to be a Tbird. Bekah was lamenting that she did not have a pahnada for her birthday in June and I tried to reassure her that a pinata was not standard at every birthday party. Rachel added that we aren't even mexican. lol. I guess that comes from watching a lot of Dora the Explorer

The combination of my pranks and Jason's sarcasm has turned our darling Rachel into a witty 8 year old! Just the other day, Jay was trying to wind up the hose and was frustrated by it being caught on the other side of the house, so he he had to go track down the hold up; lo and behold, it was Rachel stepping on it and giggling.

Another time she got me good when I took the kids over to sleep at my parents house in the middle of the night. Jason was out of town and the dogs would not stop barking, so we had to flee for safety to my momma's. I traditionally break in through the garage with the code, but for some reason that night my mom had the house locked up like a fortress and I asked the kids why my mom had every single door locked. Rachel answered the rhetorical question with a smart reply saying maybe they didn't want their crazy daughter breaking in during the middle of the night.

She always surprises me with how quick her comments are, but she has been in training for quite some time! When she was a toddler she asked a deacon passing the sacrament if he was Harry Potter, because he was a look alike. There was a teacher blessing the sacrament that could have been her Uncle Winn's twinn and she shouted "Look, there is another Winn". She is a great joy in our family!

Texas Hurricane

Subject: benefits of being prepared-Texas Hurricane LDS member
Dear Friends:

Just to let you know that the Rittman's are doing well. We have a 6'x6' hole in our roof, no electricity or running water, Trees down everywhere. However, because we listened to the counsel of our Prophet we are prepared, calm, and helping one another with trees in roofs, flooding, etc.

There is a POD or Point of Distrubution in Tomball where we live. There you get water and ice IF you have enough fuel to wait in the 3 hour lines. We don't have to do that because we have 3 full water barrels, 75 juice bottles filled with water, and our pool which is dirty but we use it to flush.

It is very difficult to get gas. Police guard the stations when fuel is delivered and you might wait half a day to get up to the pump just to have them say, "Too bad, we are out".

I am grateful that we have a generator. We run it 4 hours a day to keep our fridge and light. I am grateful that we have had fuel for it. You can't even by gas containers as they are rationed. We can only by bread once a week and limited to 2 loaves at a time. Water is rationed by the case at the grocery store. 3 cases per family.

The Atm machines do not have power. For the past 6 months I have stashed small bills away because I have had such a feeling of foreboding. We have cash because of that.LISTEN TO THE SPIRIT. Get cash in small bills because the stores can't make change and credit and debit cards often don't work. I had to pay 5 dollars more for an item because they couldn't make change for me.

Believe it or not...I have not had a bath in 4 days, Today was the first day I got to wash my hair with pool water. I haven't fixed my hair in a week!!! It just doesn't matter anymore. We can not do laundry because we don't have water. So, we wear our clothes until they are literally disgusting. When we do finally get water we will have to boil it since it is contaminated.

I am grateful for my parents. When we got low on generator fuel they drove 45 minutes to help us. They filled up their cans and brought us 10 gallons of fuel which kept us going until this morning at 6:oo am when we finally found some gas.

I want all of you to know that I have such a testimony of following the counsel of our living prophet. There really is safety and peace in your heart if you are prepared. Please get your generators, 5 gas cans full of gas, canned goods, baby items, baby wipes to bathe, and all the water you can store...even if you have to trip on it in your home. Have your lanterns, crank flashlights, tarps, rope, etc.. ready to go because you never know when it will be your turn to endure the test. It's overwhelming, but it's going to be ok eventually. I have a home, I have food, I have water, because i liste ned to the counsel of the prophet. PLease make sure you do the same. It's time to have your life in order. Tomorrow may be too late.

I love you all so much. I wish you were here. Take care!

Diva Rachel

Aqua Globes

Rebekah is 5 and she is very receptive to tv marketing. Walking through the grocery store is always entertaining as Bekah showcases several products reciting word for word the commercials. She is very into things that solve problems around the house and make it smell good. I can never make it out of the cleaning and air freshener aisle without a demo from her. In particular, she was impressed with the Aquaglobe since it is her chore to water the plants. She told me it "it doesn't underwater or overwater". So when I saw it at Walmart I just had to buy her one and she is thrilled! Please come over for a demonstration!

Side note:
Ruth has been in trouble for washing the dogs with cleaning products she finds under the sink, a magic eraser, and no water. Jason thought she was trying to kill them, but I assured him they were all natural and non-toxic. Today, she brought me the spray bottle of febreeze and pointed to the graphics on the back that included a picture of a dog. She told me that the bottle said it was okay for dogs. I gently explained it was for helping with the dog smell and should not be applied to dogs. We comprimised and she febreezed the carpet.
